No Policeman Has Power To Demand Your Customs Papers – NPF

By Bob MajiriOghene Etemiku

Abuja – Nigeria Police high command has said that no policeman on duty, on or off the streets has the power to demand the customs papers of motorists in Nigeria.

Speaking through his verified twitter account, Acting Police Public Relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi also said that except the police are on joint operation with other security personnel, they have no power to demand to check the customs papers of motorists in Nigeria.

“And for now, we have suspended issuance of tinted glass permit, so we don’t expect our men to disturb Nigerians on this. We are to stop any vehicle with tints, search the vehicles, and its occupants, but not to delay him for not having tinted glass permits. Report them if you are so delayed so that we ask them questions,” Mr. Adejobi said on his twitter handle.

Several Nigerians who reacted to Mr. Adejobi said that the announcement is a good one but fear that officers and men of the Nigerian police on the highways “haven’t seen this tweet and won’t listen to anyone about not taking settlement from them.”

“Most of this information often end on social media, and do not get to the police on the streets. We want this policeman saying this to embark on a weekly supervisory exercise every week ensure that this message reaches everyone,” another Nigeria responded to Mr. Adejobi’s tweet.

As a response to this reaction, Mr. Adejobi said that any policeman demanding for more customs papers from Nigerians is a deviant and he must be dealt with. If not, many Nigerians will suffer from him and his likes’,

“Don’t die in silence, speak out to save yourself and others,” Mr. Adejobi said.
