Edo State Government, on Thursday, monitored the compulsory use of the Benin Central Park Terminal at the Obakhavbaye axis of Benin City, warning that the government will not condone the boarding of passengers in any other area of the Benin metropolis.
The Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA) Head of Operations, Mr. Osagie Emokpae, led other members of the Edo Joint Task Force (JTF) to monitor compliance on the use of the bus terminal.
Addressing journalists shortly after the exercise, Emokpae said the government remains committed to ensuring safety and sanity on roads.
According to him, “The commercial buses loading in S&T Barracks and Ekenwan Park should all relocate to the Benin Central Park Terminal in Obakhavbaye to help actualise the state government’s vision of decongesting the major streets of traffic.
“We don’t want to see vehicles loading outside the central park. We want all of them to relocate to the central park. We have started with Ekenwan and S&T Barracks Park and the level of their compliance is highly commendable.”
In his contribution, the representative of the state chapter of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Odion Isede, said the directive from the state government was aimed at improving the state’s transport system, charging all transporters operating in the affected areas to obey the directive.
On his part, the representative of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Amasihohu, expressed satisfaction with the free flow of traffic along the Ekenwan Road axis, hailing the state government for the world-class bus terminal.
