Edo Restates Commitment To Reopen School Of Nursing In Sept As Obaseki Inspects Reconstruction Project

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has reassured of the September reopening date for the state-owned school of Nursing and Midwifery in Benin City, noting that the ongoing remodeling and refurbishment work at the state school has reached the completion stage.

Obaseki, who disclosed this during an inspection of facilities at the institution, reassured the government’s commitment to the training of world-class health practitioners and building of infrastructure to deliver quality healthcare services to Edo people.

The governor was accompanied by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu; Secretary to State Government (SSG), Barr. Osarodion Ogie; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha; Chief Medical Director (CMD), University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Dr. Darlington Obaseki and the CMD of Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Dr. Osagie Ebomwonyi.

Obaseki noted: “There is no reason why we would not have our first students here by September. We have about 30 days of work left to be done.

“The procurement has been done, recruitment for staff almost completed, the advertisement for students is already out, accommodation for the first set of intakes is ready, while the furniture work is ongoing; a lot of background work is going on beyond what you see.” 

The governor disclosed that the accreditation team for the school had come two months ago for the purpose of accrediting various courses, noting that the team wrote to express delight on what was on ground. “The final accreditation team should be coming here anytime soon just before the school reopens,” he added.
