…Pledges improved security across Edo communities

Edo State Government plans to recruit and train over 10, 000 local security personnel to complement the efforts of the federal security agents in tackling insecurity across the state, Governor Godwin Obaseki has said.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, when he received executive members of Esan Okpa Initiative, who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City, Obaseki reassured residents that his government will sustain investment in the state’s security architecture to ensure the protection of lives and property of citizens

According to him, “We are working to ensure that we improve the security situation in the State. The government is making a lot of investment and improving strategies to ensure that the State is secured for the people.”

Reassuring the government’s commitment to restructuring the state-owned Ambrose Alli University and make it into a world-class institution of learning, Obaseki said “the position of the state government on AAU is not to witch hunt anybody but to reposition the institution and make it a world-class institution that will favourably compete with other institutions across the world.”

He further noted: “AAU is our institution; we can’t be in government and allow the school to collapse but will do all that is necessary to ensure that the school becomes a world-class institution that Edo people will be proud of. We will follow the world’s best practices in ensuring the school becomes world-class.

“The special intervention team set up by the governor is for a special purpose and by the time it completes its assignment, we all will be proud of the School.”

Earlier, President of Esan Okpa Initiative World Wide, Hon.  Mathew Egbodon said the group, an umbrella body for Esan people worldwide, is ready to collaborate with the government on issues concerning the Esan people.
