Edo State has recorded 56 new cases and four more deaths from coronavirus (COVID-19), as the government intensifies sensitisation and enforcement to ensure compliance with guidelines to guard against the spread of the second wave of the virus.
The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
Obi while reassuring the government’s commitment to curbing the spread of the virus, charged residents to complement the government’s efforts by adhering to preventive protocols to contain the pandemic.
The Incident Manager who encouraged health care workers across state to commence e-registration for COVID-19 vaccination, urged citizens with COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.
He noted, “Edo State, in the last 24 hours, recorded 56 new cases, four more deaths and 29 recoveries from COVID-19.
“While the 56 new cases were confirmed from the 359 samples collected within the 24-hour timeframe, the state currently has 359 active cases that are being managed at various isolation and treatment centres within the state.”
Decrying the rising community transmission of the virus and case fatality rate, he noted, “We appeal to all residents to complement the State government’s efforts at curbing community spread of the virus by complying with government’s guidelines against the spread of the second wave of COVID-19.
“To protect yourself and your loved ones from the virus, it is important to wear your facemask when in public, wash your hands regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitisers and observe social distancing.”
