COVID-19 Second Wave: 46 New Cases Emerge With 12 Recoveries, 1 Death In Edo

Edo State has recorded 46 new cases, 12 recoveries and 1 death from coronavirus disease (COVID-19), as the state government rolls out stringent measures to check further spread of the second wave of the pandemic.

The Edo State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this during a briefing of the State Taskforce on COVID-19, chaired by the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

According to him, “In Edo State, we have recorded 46 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of active cases in the state to 271. From the 46 new cases, 32 were reported from the RT-PCR Laboratory at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), while 14 were reported at the Laboratory at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH). 183 samples were collected in the last 24 hours from the screening and testing centres across the 18 local government areas in the state”

He, however, noted that a death was recorded from COVID-19 in the state, while 12 recoveries were reported at the state’s treatment and isolation centres.“10 people recovered from UBTH isolation centre, while 2 were from the Stella Obasanjo Hospital,” he added.
