PEABODY, MA — Peabody’s Audrey Gabriel is one of 25 University of Massachusetts students chosen for the prestigious UMass Women Into Leadership fellowship program.
Gabriel, a member of the school’s Class of 2023, is majoring in public health sciences in the School of Public Health as part of a pre-medical track.
The fellowship program provided leadership training and professional development at UMass. Fellows get a chance to be introduced to public leaders and explore career opportunities in public service.
“At a time when politics seem divisive and off putting, the UWiL fellowship offers a reminder about the value of civic engagement and community involvement,” Michelle Gonçalves, UWiL Executive Director, said. “The members of this year’s fellowship class will be tomorrow’s public leaders, and we’re excited to support their growth.”
Gabriel was chosen out of more than 100 candidates.
In its fifth year, UWiL has provided mentoring, academic training, job preparation and leadership coaching to more than 150 students who have gone on to hold elected office, receive national scholarships, attend graduate school, and work at a diverse range of nonprofit and public organizations advancing the public interest.
The program also provides more than $15,000 in scholarships to support students who are doing meaningful unpaid and lower-paid work in the public sector.
