Edo State Government and Authorities of Oredo Local Government, have read riot act to Revenue Collectors who are daily extorting illegal monies from petty traders and other market users in Benin City.
The Chairman, Edo state chapter of ALGON, and Chairman Oredo Local Government Council, Sir Jerkins Osunde on Monday, while addressing crowds of Traders and other key stakeholders on behalf the State Government at the Popular New Benin Market, during a sensitization walk, warned the illegal Revenue Collectors to desist former the heinous practice or face the full wrath of the law.
The sensitization walk tagged ‘challenges traders face in Edo state markets put together by the Traders Welfare Union of Nigeria was aimed at exposing the ills of illegal revenue collection at Markets.
The President, Traders Welfare Union of Nigeria, Comrade Lucky Orukpe, who explained the trauma petty traders undergo in the hands of these illegal revenue collectors, said it was dehumanizing that at the period the state government is poised to ensure speedy development some persons are bent on sabotaging such laudable efforts.
On their part, former commissioners for youths and sports Hon. Damian Lawani and that of women affairs Mrs. Maria Izekor, Executive Director, Edo State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr. Emma Okoduwa commended the union for the good initiative and urged traders to stop selling bad meat to their costumers.
Damian Lawani, Maria Izekor and Emma Okoduwa who highlighted the hazards of consumption of decaying meat and unapproved meat to human existence said governments officials are already monitoring activities of those involved adding those caught red handed will not go unpunished.
