Peabody Traffic Stop Leads To Gun Charges: State Police

DANVERS, MA — Two men face several gun charges after Massachusetts State Police troopers said they found a loaded revolver during a traffic stop on Route 1 in Peabody Sunday afternoon.

Trooper Robert Padellaro, out of the Danvers barracks, was patrolling Route 1 in Peabody when he said he saw a Chevrolet Impala with a dark window tint going nearly 70 miles per hour in a 50 mile-per-hour zone. Padellaro stopped the Impala near Lowell Street and said he saw two men making “strange movements” inside the car.

Padellaro said he smelled “freshly burnt marijuana” when questioning the men and determined there was probable car to search the car. Along with Trooper James Maloney, the officers searched the car and said they found a loaded .38 special revolver “with the hammer cocked ready to fire.”

Craig Gibbs-Wooden, 21, of Everett, and Victor Ellis, 20, of Roxbury, were arrested and face multiple gun charges.

Gibbs-Wooden was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an identification card, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a firearm with a prior violent crime.

Ellis was charged with possession of a firearm without an identification card subsequent offense, possession of ammunition without an identification card subsequent offense, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a firearm with one prior crime.

The men were booked at the Danvers Barracks and arraigned at Peabody District Court on Monday.
