PEABODY, MA — A morning of wild wind and rain, which caused nearly 70,000 power outages across the state as of mid-morning, left trees and wires down in at least 10 different spots in Peabody.
Peabody Municipal Light reported at least 10 sites of trees and wires down in the city Wednesday morning, adding that power had been restored to all but two isolated areas as of early Wednesday afternoon.
Peabody Municipal Light said the outage in the 5 Corners area was caused when a tree fell on power lines — causing a utility pole to snap.
According to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, there were 56,473 residences without power statewide as of about 10:30 a.m. There were nearly 70,000 without power at the peak of the outages mid-morning. Nearby towns also experienced extensive damage and power outages.
Peabody Municipal Light asked that any residents still experiencing outages call 978-531-5975 or go to the PML website.
Easton had the most outages with 5,724 National Grid customers, or 57 percent of town, without power. In Swansea, 2,966 customers, or 40 percent of town, was without power. In Attleboro, 2,148 customers, or 11 percent of town, was without power.
One in five Stoneham households were without power, with 2,139 in the dark.
