Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has praised Nigerians for their resilience and sacrifices to surmount the nation’s challenges, as the country marks its 60th independence anniversary celebration.
The governor, in a statement, reflected on the labour of the nation’s founding fathers, praising the resilience of Nigerians to speak in unison for a democratic entity, despite the country’s diversity.
He said, “On behalf of the government and people of Edo State, I salute all Nigerians on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of our independence as a nation. I want to especially rejoice with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on this auspicious occasion.
“Today, we celebrate the labour of our heroes past and the resilience to speak in unison for a democratic entity, despite our diversity. The just concluded governorship poll in Edo State was yet another test of the consolidation of our democracy and the firm resolve of our people to defend it.”
Obaseki added, “We have indeed come a long way, shouldering the onerous task of charting the course of our collective destiny, making personal and collective sacrifices that today define our path to greatness.”
“While we agree that there are still challenges facing us, we are emboldened and hopeful, in our collective spirit as Nigerians, to always believe in one indivisible and prosperous nation having been blessed with rich human and natural assets. These endowments rekindle hope and confidence for the future of our great country. Happy Independence Anniversary, Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the governor said.
