Edo 2020: Pastor Ize-Iyamu Signs Peace Accord And Commitment Pledge

…Commends Oba for Peace Initiative

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on Tuesday committed his party his supporters to maintain the peace, during Saturday’s Edo State governorship election in which he is contesting as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

He said that he has maintained the peace during his campaigns across the 192 wards in the state and promised to talk again to all his supporters across the state to sustain it in the days before the election and election day.

Ize-Iyamu was speaking in Benin City after he and 13 other governorship candidates in the election including incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki signed a peace accord and  commitment pledge at the instance of the National Peace Committee, chaired by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, RTD.

He said that his party will do its best as it has done throughout the campaigns to get its members and supporters to conduct themselves as peacefully as possible because it is the only way to ensure a free, fair and credible election.

His words:  “We will do all our best to ensure that the election is peaceful; we support free, fair and credible election. We believe that is the only way we can sustain our democracy”.

The APC candidate had commended the Nigeria Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the National Peace Committee and especially its chairman, General Abubakar for personally attending the event, as he pledged to abide by its tenets.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu was, however, full of encomiums for the Benin Monarch, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, who initiated the peace process weeks ago by inviting him and the PDP candidate to his palace to discuss a peaceful election.

“What we are noticing today was actually initiated one or two weeks ago (by the Oba). He called us to his palace and spoke to us about the need for peace,” he said

“Wwe had promised him then just as we are promising now that throughout this election, the campaigns and the election itself, there will be peace.”
