…Edo ready for take-off of new college of education
…Resumption for fresh intake set for October
Nigeria’s Federal Government has commended the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for his administration’s sustained investment in the state’s education sector.
It noted that the government’s intervention in the sector is responsible for the success of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme in the state.
A Federal Government-delegation led by Education Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Professor Bappa- Aliyu Muhammadu, gave the commendation today during the inspection of ongoing construction work at the Tayo Apkata University of Education, Ekiadolor, which is the site for the new Federal College of Education in Edo State.
The inspection by the team was to ascertain the level of preparedness of the institution ahead of the planned commencement of academic activities scheduled for October, 2020.Governor Obaseki had visited the institution in May, 2020, reassuring that the federal government- delegation would be visiting the state to inspect the state of the College.
The conversion of the university to a federal college of education is a fall out from the governor’s meeting with Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari on the siting of one of the Federal Colleges of Education in the six geo -political zones of the country in Edo.
Speaking shortly after the inspection, Muhammadu expressed satisfaction over the projects on ground, adding that it was a clear indication of the state government’s readiness to hand over the institution to the Federal Government for the commencement of academic activities.
He noted, “We are here to see the facilities for the take-off of the new Federal College of Education. We can see that most of the structures are already here. President Muhammadu Buhari has given his word that the institution will take off this October, 2020”
In a separate remark, the Edo State Commissioner for Education, Barr. Jimoh Jegbai, who represented the governor, commended President Buhari for making Edo State one of the beneficiaries of the establishment of Federal Colleges of Education.
A staff of the institution, Comrade Kenneth Omoruyi, thanked the leadership of both federal and state governments for making their dream a reality.
He, however, assured the delegation of their unalloyed support in ensuring that the federal institution thrives.
