COVID-19: 173 INMATES GET PARDON AND RELEASE IN EDO

In line with the declaration of the Federal Government on the release of inmates to decongest Correctional Centres to create room for social distancing, the Governor of Edo State His Excellency Godwin Obaseki granted pardon and releases 173 inmates.

The released inmates cut across the various Medium Security Custodial Centres(MSCC) of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Edo State Command as follows:
MSCC, Oko: 48 inmates
MSCC, Benin Old: 108 inmates
MSCC, Auchi: 4 inmates
MSCC, Ubiaja: 12 inmates
AND FEMALE FACILITY, AUCHI : 1 inmate

The state government also provided relief items to each of the released inmates.

Addressing inmates of MSCC Benin old to flag off the release, Controller of Corrections Edo State Command Joseph Usendiah said: “the best way to appreciate this special favours of the government is to promise and ensure that none of you is found wanting again.” That they should all be law abiding and put into use all the training and skills acquire while in custody.

Controller Usendiah also gave words of advice to those still in custody that “pardon comes from God therefore patience, commitment to learning and reformation should be the watch word.” He encouraged them to be hopeful in God.

The overjoyed released inmates expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government, Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Controller General of Corrections Ja’afaru Ahmed for their release, promised to be good citizens and that they will not be found wanting again.
