Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has approved the appointment of Osaze Ethan Uzamere, son of Senator Ehigie Uzamere, as his new Chief of Staff.
In a statement today, Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., said the appointment takes immediate effect.
Uzamere is the son of Nigerian Senator Ehigie Uzamere, who represented Edo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2007 and 2011.
An investment banker, Uzamere, 38, is a graduate of Stony Brook University, New York, where he majored in Computer and Electrical Engineering.
He has had stints with Lehman Brothers and South Grade Engineering, among others.
A thorough-bred professional, he had, before his appointment, served as Executive Assistant to Governor Obaseki.
It would be recalled that Edo State Government said in an earlier statement, authored by the Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, that he was yet to receive any official communication of the resignation of former Chief of Staff, Mr. Taiwo Akerele, but that he will “accept it any time it gets to him.”
Osagie noted in the press statement that the story has only been making the rounds on social media that Mr. Akerele resigned his appointment.
Prior to the statement, story was out, trending in social media about the sudden exit of Mr. Akerele from the plump job.
“In the past few hours, it emerged on social media that the Chief of Staff, Mr. Taiwo Akerele, has resigned his appointment with the Edo State Government.
“While the governor has not received any formal communication to this effect, he believes that this is a personal decision of Mr. Akerele.
“However, whenever the resignation letter gets to the governor, he would accept it, and he wishes Akerele all the best in his future endeavours.”
The story of Akerele’s resignation from the Obaseki administration has been making waves in the social media, suggesting a crack in the governor’s camp at a critical time of his reelection bid and at a time when the rift between him and his predecessor, Comrade Adam Oshiomhole has not been resolved.
As at press time, all efforts to reach Mr. Taiwo Akerele for comment failed. Besides multiple calls Alltimepost.com also sent two text messages without responses.
