Some Nigerians on social media have faulted the Lagos State Health Commissioner, Prof. Akin Abayomi, for visiting Nigeria’s index case of the novel Coronavirus without using any personal protective equipment.
They said this while reacting to a tweet by the commissioner, where he attached pictures of his visit to the patient.
The commissioner had in the tweet said, “I visited the COVID19 patient, a male Italian national, who is isolated at the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, where he is been managed by our well-trained staff.
“I spoke to him and assured him of Lagos State government’s resolve to ensure he gets adequate care.”
Reacting, @adewalefajana said, “I expected that Prof would be in full protective gears when visiting the patient.
“We can’t afford to lose another prominent person like him. Dr. Adedevoh’s departure leaves a wound so hard to heal.”
@aiksmart said, “Prof, to imagine that you went into this facility with zero PPE is mind-blowing!”
@Mrsegun11 said, “The prof self isn’t safe right now.”
@ESQUIRE_LGD said, “I see three prospective COVID patients.”
@tosin_olaluwoye said, “Prof, I don’t think there is anything heroic about visiting a coronavirus patient WITHOUT PPE. Yes, maybe you did not get to close but as they say, better safe than sorry.”
@macheteros expressed shock at the demarcation between the commissioner and the patient, saying, “Is that a net door I see? Jesus!”
@ogbokomerry also said, “You mean you went there without PPE? Just a net door separating you from the Italian guy. I am in shock!”
