Police Flag Off “Operation Puff Adder” in Edo, Will Go After Criminals, Sponsors – CP Mohammed

Edo State Commissioner of Police CP DanMallam Mohammed has flagged off anti-crime outfit code-named “Operation Puff Adder” in the state to checkmate the activities of criminals and their sponsors.

The ceremony witnessed by some heads of other sister security agencies, civil society groups, professional bodies, religious and traditional leaders in the state held at the police command headquarters in Benin City, Thursday, May 2, 2019.

The CP said the flag off was in compliance with the recent directive of the Inspector-General of Police IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu as the operation is aimed at reinvigorating security in the state.

“In compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Edo State Police Command is today launching “Operation Puff Adder” to checkmate the activities of criminals and their sponsors,” CP DanMallam stated.

He explained that the combat squad operation would address contemporary security challenges such as terrorism, proliferation of small and light weapons, kidnapping, cultism, cybercrime, human trafficking and armed robbery.

“Operation Puff Adder” is based on the principles of community policing, Intelligence led policing, synergy with other security agencies, convoy/motorized patrol, stop and search operations etc.

“Edo is strategically located being a gateway to both southern and Northern Nigeria….. social activities in the state is high…,” he stressed.

Some high profile suspected criminals arrested after the CP DanMallam Mohammed assumed duty in the state were paraded shortly after the ceremony.

Also present at the flag Off was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5, AIG Dibal Paul Yakadi who was represented by DCP Emmanuel Effiom in charge of administration at the zonal headquarters in Benin City.

Highpoint of the event was “Malaysian Dance” by some operatives of mobile policemen lead by SP Shaba John.
