Rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Edo State Government of legitimizing corruption under the guise of attracting “foreign investors to the State” in the face of worsening economic challenges, with the allocation of N7 billion travel allowance for Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The opposition party condemned the N7 billion travel allowance for the governor which was captured in the 2019 budget of the State.
Edo State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih made the party’s stance known at a campaign rally at Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the State during the weekend.
It would be recalled that Governor Godwin Obaseki on Wednesday December 19, 2018 signed the sum of N183.7 billion 2019 Appropriation Bill passed by the Edo State House of Assembly into law.
According to Chief Dan Orbih, “In this year alone, he (Obaseki) has provided N7 billion for foreign trips. He says he is looking for foreign investors to come to the State.
“He (Obaseki) had travelled to Malaysia, Indonesia, China etc. looking for foreign investors and he came back with nothing! All we hear is campaign sounding promises!
“That governor is busy signing memorandum of understanding (MoU) everywhere and with every group, society, union and even in some case, progressive unions… hence he is now referred to as MOU governor…” Orbih remarked.
Also speaking, the PDP Candidate in Edo South Senatorial district, Sen. Matthew Urhoghide, appealed to a crowd of party supporters to re-elect him in order to attract more development to the area.
He advise them to call the bluff of vote buyers and elect PDP Candidates in the 2019 general elections as well as defend their mandate to secure a future for themselves and their Children.
At the PDP campaign rally at Egor Community in Egor Local Government Area, the 2016 Governorship Candidate of the party in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, said PDP parades the best Candidates in the 2019 general elections.
He recalled how President Muhammadu Buhari gave his support for governor Adams Oshiomhole as he then was, becoming the national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) haven misled the former to commission the multibillion Central hospital project which was yet to be put to use since November 2016.
