BY MIKE OSAROGIAGBON

Benin City – Gunmen killed the police orderly attached to the executive Chairman, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Council of Edo State Hon. Eric Osayande in Benin City, yesterday (Saturday).

This came barely three days after gunmen killed a police orderly during the kidnap of his boss Hon. Michael Ohio-Ezomoh, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Owan West Constituency at the forthcoming Edo State House of Assembly election.

The police officer identified as Osio Monday Ehigie in Saturday’s incident was returning from the chairman’s residence when the armed men waylaid him at Nomayo Street junction, Upper Sonkponba road, Benin City at about 8pm.

He was said to have gunned down two of the gunmen before he died.

Another member of the gang who sustained severe wounds during the ambush is said to be on danger list in a hospital.

It could not be immediately ascertained whether his gun was taken from him by other members of the gunmen.

When our reporter visited the state police command headquarters in Benin City yesterday, police officers were seen in clusters discussing the deadly incident as many hailed their fallen colleague’s gallantry.

The Commissioner of Police, Edo State CP Hakeem Olusegun has reportedly paid a condolence visit to the family of the slain police officer as efforts were on to arrest other fleeing gang members.

It would be recalled that the other police orderly identified as Sgt. Monday Paul in the Owan West incident was shot dead and his rifle taken away by the kidnappers who invaded the Sabo-gida Ora private residence of Hon. Ohio-Ezomoh about 1a.m, last Wednesday.

Sources hinted that the kidnappers were yet to demand a ransom at press time yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Government had in the wake of the incident directed the Commissioner of Police in the state to ensure the release of Hon. Micheal Ohio-Ezomoh and arrest the kidnappers.
