2019 Elections: AIG Directs CPs To Ensure Level Playing Field

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]ssistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), in charge of zone 5, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman has directed the three Commissioners of Police in the zone, made up of Bayelsa, Delta and Edo States, to ensure equal adequate security is provided for all the political parties and their candidates before, during and after the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

He also charged the CPs to convey interactive meetings with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties, traditional and religious leaders, market women as well as other stakeholders with a view to ensuring hitch-free elections in their respective states.

He enjoined INEC to ensure relevant training and equipment are provided for their ad-hoc personnel to meet the expectations of the electorate.

AIG Alkali gave the charges while addressing journalists in his office after he met with the three CPs, some INEC officials, heads of Special Operations and officers of political desks in the zone, Benin City, last Thursday.

The Zonal Police Chief assured the electorate of a watertight security, revealing that the police would enhance its synergy with other relevant security agencies during and after the exercise.

“There is need for INEC to collaborate and synergize with the police and other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free political campaigns in the 2019 elections,

“The Police Commissioners from Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States Command’s should put up robust strategies and supervise the conduct of political parties and their candidates during the political campaigns,

“The Commissioners of Police should as a matter of urgency reactivate the Agency for Consultative Forum chaired by the Commissioner and co-chaired by INEC REC in their respective commands on how they will discuss and conduct a hitch free 2019 election”

AIG Alkali however appealed to political parties and gladiators to always intimate the police of their rallies in other to avert undue clashes with other political parties at the same venue.

Meanwhile, the AIG, Zone 5, Alkali Baba Usman had on Thursday 22nd November, 2018, presented checks for five millions, two hundred thousand Naira (#5,200,000 ) to 10 beneficiaries/Next of Kins of Edo and Delta states Command under the Inspector – General of Police Family welfare Insurance scheme.

The check’s presentation took place at the zone 5 command Headquarters, Benin city.
This was contained in a release signed by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer DSP Emeka Iheanacho and made available to newsmen in Benin City.

During the presentation, the Assistant Inspector- General of Police charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money for the up keep and welfare of their respective families.

He said that the IGP Family welfare Insurance scheme was a welfare insurance scheme established by the present Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris to alleviate the suffering faced by deceased colleagues prior to the payment of benefits of such deceased Officer.

The AIG also explained that the essence of the scheme was in line with the IGP vision of catering for the welfare of Officers and Men of the Force Including supporting the Families of deceased officers who lost their lives on the line of duty. He also identified with their immediate families especially, the wives and children in their courage to bear the irreparable losses.

In a vote of thanks, Miss Precious Izunyon Ivie, commended the Inspector-General of Police, and Management team as well as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5 for the gesture.

She said that the honor was a great intervention in their life and assured that they will make judicious use of the money. She further prayed God’s guidance upon the Inspectors-General of Police and all the officers and men of the Force.
