Alltimepost.com had reported that the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) of the Edo State Police Command Headquarters in Benin City was hit with odious stench which emanated from a spilled sewage in the premises.
When our reporter paid a follow up visit to the command headquarters last Tuesday, it was observed that the putrid stench which hitherto stifled the breath of officers and visitors had disappeared from the environment.
It was also observed that the concrete slabs covering two soakaways beside one of the maximum cells in the SCIID premises had fresh cement on them, an indication that the sewage had been evacuated.
Though the smell has subsided considerably, an exposed plastic pipe and some debris besides a cell on top of which the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigation DCP Peter Okoh, is located, also desire attention.
It was further observed that Intelligence and investigation activities were being conducted smoothly as operatives and visitors were excited by the air that now pervades the SCIID compound.
“What a relief, so one can still breath well around here (SCIID premises), I have been working inside polluted environment, when I complained last month my boss said I am not ready to work.
“I don’t know why authorities will not do things in the overall welfare of all,” a lady officer asked rhetorically as she enters one of the offices in the premises.
It could not be ascertained whether the entire SCIID would receive a facelift as others at the command headquarters, but it was scooped that government budgets money for maintenance of Police facilities, annually.
Commenting on the palliative clean up noticed by our reporter, the Spokesman, Edo Police Command DSP Chidi Nwabuzor said it was in compliance with the CP’s directive after media report.
