The NHVMAS boss, while addressing newsmen in Benin City in preparation for the event, said the theme for this year’s programme is “Bioethics, vulnerability and protection from exploitation in research”.
She said the 2018 forum will bring together individuals and groups across many disciplines with interest in bioethics, including community activists, members of institutional review boards (IRB) and research ethics committees (RECs), researchers, and past and present participants in research, to explore the concepts of vulnerability and exploitation; share experiences from the field and proffer suggestions to how vulnerable individuals can be protected from exploitation during research.
She added that the forum will also feature plenaries, panel discussions, case presentations and a community session, and it is expected to introduce abstract-driven sessions to provide opportunities for more people to share their works with the international community.
Also speaking, the Manager of Center for Bioethics and Research (CBR), said participants will have the opportunity of meeting and interacting with International Ethics Consultants that have over 20 years’ experience of working in the field of Bioethics.
He called on research ethics committee members, bioethicists and those interested in research ethics to attend the 2018 International Bioethics Forum taking place in Lagos in the month of December.
