Alhassan tendered her resignation on Saturday following her disqualification from the governorship race of Taraba State by the All Progressives Congress.
On Twitter, the Presidency @NGRpresident tweeted, “President @MBuhari has accepted the resignation of Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan as Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development with immediate effect.
“In a letter signed by him today,PMB said, “I have received your letter offering your resignation as a Minister of the Fed. Rep of Nigeria. I accept your resignation with immediate effect. On behalf of the Govt & people of Nigeria,I thank you for your past services to the nation.
“The President has directed that the work of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development be looked after by Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, the Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment. This, also, is with immediate effect.”
Alhassan had revealed her resignation as minister and exit from the APC on Twitter. She tweeted, “Today, the 29th of September 2018, I wish to transmit to the President my decision to resign as the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and withdraw my membership of the All Progressive Congress (APC),”
In an earlier letter to Buhari, Alhassan said she was resigning from the ruling party because had been disqualified from running for governor in Taraba State.“I received with shock and dismay that I was disqualified and not cleared to contest,” Alhassan said in the letter. “No reason was given for my disqualification Sir.”
