The Benin Monarch who stated this recently when Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar paid him a courtesy visit in his Palace, urged political leaders and politicians in general to make it a priority to tackle the security challenges confronting Nigeria.
The Royal father attributed the high level of insecurity in the country to underdeveloped economy, porous national borders and disrespect for traditional values and norms.
The Oba of Benin advised political leaders not to waste the nation’s wealth and resources on politicking, and settlement of quarrels, instead it should be used to improve the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
The Omo N’Oba frowns particularly at the incessant quarrels and squabbles at the legislative arm of government both at state and federal levels, and called on political leaders to endeavor to present honorable and responsible candidates for elective positions.
He said Royal Fathers in the country will always pray for all politicians irrespective of their political leanings, pointing out that his wish is for God and the ancestors to produce a political leader who will enhance the welfare of the common man, respect traditional institution and make life better for the people.
While introducing the former Vice President at the Oba’s Palace, the Director-General of Atiku Campaign Organization, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, described the culture of Benin Kingdom as second to none in the world.
In his address to the Omo N’Oba, Atiku Abubakar said he was in Edo State to consult with PDP members in the state regarding his presidential ambition, hence he considered it very important to pay homage to the Oba of Benin in his Palace to solicit for Royal blessings.
In another development, the Oba of Benin received Prof. Babara Plankensteiner and her entourage with a charge to them to do everything possible to ensure the return of the stolen Benin artefact in their country.
Oba Ewuare II wondered why it has been difficult to return the artefact to its original owner, assuring them that the Palace is much safer than any museum in the world to accommodate the art works.
