Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki’s call for support in empowering Edo youth to become more productive, has been heeded by more public-spirited groups, who have stepped up empowerment programmes for youths in the state.
Governor Obaseki had, in several meetings with civil society organisations and diaspora groups called for increased participation of well-meaning Nigerians and friends of the country to support government’s wholistic approach in training and retraining youths on in-demand skills.
The recent addition to the growing number of groups training youths in Edo is a Non-Governmental Organisation, Dorcas Life Changers working in conjunction with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Edo Province 1. They trained 525 youths at the weekend on various skills.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Magdalene Ohenhen, said that the training is one of the ways the Godwin Obaseki administration intends to reduce unemployment and end youth restiveness.
She urged the beneficiaries to put the knowledge they have acquired to good use and also train others, charging them to leverage facilities at the newly inaugurated Edo Innovation Hub to market their products and increase visibility.
She assured the participants of the state government’s support and urged them to take advantage of the prevailing business-friendly environment in the state.
Earlier, the President, Dorcas Life Changers, Mrs Olaitan Olojede, said that the organisation has trained over 6,000 people since it started operation in 2007.
Olojede said the organisation offers social services and promote youths and women development through Godly counsel, community and rural development.
