Force Headquarters has come up with details on the circumstances leading to Tuesday’s escape of Senator Dino Melaye.
Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN at the premises of Zanklin Hospital, where the senator is receiving treatment following the development.
Melaye jumped down from the vehicle conveying him to Lokoja, Kogi State for possible parade and subsequent arraignment in court.
He said “men believed to be working for him got wind of the police movement and waylaid the police vehicle carrying him around the Area 1 area with their vehicle after which the senator jumped down and bolted away in the process.”
Moshood said “Dino attempt escape around Area 1 area of the Federal Capital Territory.”
Moshood explained that a middle aged woman was wounded in the process by the vehicle used by the senator’s men.
Jimoh Moshood, has led at least 30 armed policemen to Zankili Medical Center, Mabushi, Abuja, where Dino Melaye is being treated.
The Senator representing Kogi west was admitted into the hospital after he attempted to escape from police custody on Tuesday.
Also, the road leading to the hospital, has been barricaded by the gun-welding officers.
He said the police had since set up machineries to investigate the circumstance leading to the escape of the senator, adding that the senator would be charged for case of escape from lawful custody.
He said “the vehicle used by the senator’s men to accost the police vehicle has since been recovered and taken into custody.”
He also said that “useful information has been obtained from its handlers.”
