[dropcap]B[/dropcap]ENIN CITY – A nine-month old baby has been found dead in a water-filled drum inside his parents’ apartment, hours after another woman recently married by his father moved into the house.The incident was said to have occurred at 53, Obaghavbaye Street, Off Plymouth Road, Benin City at about 7am on Wednesday.
The newly married woman (name withheld) said to be Mr. Anju Abubakar’s second wife was brought in from Sokoto on Wednesday.
It was learnt that mother of the baby who is Mr. Abubakar’s (Suya seller) first wife with two children, a little girl and the deceased body boy started looking for her child when she returned to the room after visiting the bathroom within the compound.
The baby was said to be sleeping on the bed when she left the room.
It was gathered that the father of the baby was in another room when his second wife went and informed him that their baby was missing.
After fruitless initial search, the body of the baby was discovered inside the drum when his mother wanted to take water to wash her hands.
The landlord of the house Mr. Ali Isu said he swiftly reported the tragedy at Adeyan police station.
It was gathered that a team of Investigators led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO Mohammed Saliu visited the scene and invited the father and mother of the baby as well as the new wife for interrogation.
Contacted, the Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command DSP Chidi Nwabuzor said he was yet to get information on the case as he had been away with the CP.
