Reveal Content Of “Mere Letter,” PDP Challenges Edo Assembly Speaker

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]do State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto to reveal the content of its letter, which the lawmaker had acknowledged as a “Mere Letter.”

In a press statement tagged: Hon Adjoto’s “Mere Letter” in Benin City on Wednesday and signed by its Spokesman, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, PDP had the following to say:

It has taken the speaker of EDHA one month to speak on the most topical subject in Edo state and Nigeria right now.

At least he has confirmed he received a “mere letter” from PDP. Let him reveal the content of the “mere letter” or at the least let him reply the “mere letter”.

Gone are the days of Hon Benson Alegbe and Hon Matthew Egbadon as speakers. Gone are the days our house of assembly was populated by men and women who represented their constituents and constituency and not their personal interest or Godfathers.

In a time of emergency and near war, a speaker of a house of assembly is trivializing topical issues and calling a proposal sent to it a “mere letter”.

Edo State deserve better.

Hon Adjoto’s statement simply shows he doesn’t know his legislative responsibility despite spending three terms in the House of Assembly. His duty is to respond to urgent legislative needs of the state whenever a matter has transcended mere policy pronouncements as Gov. Obaseki has been wasting his time doing over herdsmen menace in the state.

PDP acted responsibly through the appropriate channel, and not as falsely claimed by the Speaker who ought to be grateful that the party has shown the Assembly the way to tackle the current challenges posed by the murderous rampage of Herders across Edo State and beyond.
