However, Chief Press Secretary to the Benin monarch, Mr. Desmond Agbama in his reaction, recalled that the Odionwere and three leaders were suspended last year by Oba Ewuare II for disobeying his orders. On the removal of the Odionwere and his council of elders by the Oba,he said, “I am not competent to speak on the issue.”
The community, therefore in its petition to the Benin monarch, appealed to him to revisit the matter and temper justice with mercy by reinstating Pa Omobude as the Odionwere of the community along with his council of elders.
The community, in the petition to Omo N’ Oba Ewuare II and copied to Governor Godwin Obaseki through their counsel, Mr Olaywola Afolabi, said that there had never been a break down of law and order in the area neither has there been any internal conflict to warrant such a decision to be reached. They said, “Our clients have always cherished the leadership of the deposed Odionwere and his council of elders most especially after the ban on Community Development Accociations in Benin by the government. “
The only known crisis which has plugged our clients was that of the long drawn boundary dispute with Okhoromi village. The said dispute was brought before you and after several months of adjudication on the matter, you laid to rest the boundary dispute with our neighbours via an erudite judgment you delivered on August 11,2017.
“This verdict was in favour of our clients and ought to have brought peace and happiness to our clients but was toppled and hijacked by a few of your chiefs you sent to delineate the boundary between our clients and Okhoromi village.
