Oba Ewuare II who made the call when the Danish Ambassador paid him a courtesy visit in his Palace said if there is no demand, there would be no supply, pointing out that human trafficking and illegal migration have become a global phenomenon which must be tackled through concerted effort.
The Oba of Benin solicited the support of Danish government in the area of investment, especially in agriculture to engage the youths and discourage them from embarking on the dangerous journey through the desert or the sea.The Benin Monarch informed the visiting Ambassador from Denmark that the Palace has offered massive land to Danish investors to establish
one of the largest poultry in Africa, and called on Ambassador Guttermann to prevail on them to ensure its realization.
His Royal Majesty acknowledged that Denmark is good in animal husbandry as well as leather works. The Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Torben Guttermann said he was in Benin for the premier of a movie on human trafficking which was put together by NAPTIP and other NGOs, which is being supported by the Danish government.
He said the movie is for community outreach in Nigeria about the dangers young men and women face in the desert and Mediterranean Sea while being trafficked out of Nigeria. Mr. Guttermann said many have died in the process of being trafficked
between Nigeria and Europe.
The Danish Ambassador commended Oba Ewuare II for the purposeful leadership he is providing in Benin Kingdom, which has brought tremendous peace, progress and development to the Kingdom. He promised to initiate some projects in Edo State in the area of agriculture that would engage the youths meaningfully.
