The White House released a statement from President Barack Obama, who phoned Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory early this morning.
According to the statement, Obama also spoke with Hillary Clinton and “expressed admiration for the strong campaign she waged throughout the country. “
Obama will speak today at the White House to “discuss the election results and what steps we can take as a country to come together after this hard-fought election season.”
Another statement from the White House this morning noted that President Obama has invited President-elect Trump to talk about transition planning, which his team has been working on for nearly a year.
“Ensuring a smooth transition of power is one of the top priorities the President identified at the beginning of the year and a meeting with the President-elect is the next step,” the statement read.
