Five Police Officers Collapse At Obaseki’s Inauguration

By Alltimepost.com

Benin City – No fewer than five officers of Edo State Police Command collapsed during the inauguration ceremony of the new governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in the state capital last Saturday.
Investigation revealed that the officers involved had allegedly been on the parade ground standing for over six hours and may have suffered from serious exhaustion, occasioned by severe heat from the sun which became unbearable.
The police officers who fell one after the other were rushed out of the line where they had mounted guard of honor for the new Governor.
They were moved to a corner at the back of the tent reserved for the musicians where they were later attended to by the police medical team who gave cold water and glucose to revive them.
The police medical team moved between lines giving their men glucose to sustain them while the ceremony lasted.
Members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society were sighted moving round but the police medical team never called them for assistance. Out of the five collapsed police officers, just one of them was a female.
As soon as the incident occurred Police officers allegedly demanded the cameras of newsmen around and deleted the photo shots of the incident in a desperate attempt to prevent them from being published.
Alltimepost.com contacted the newly appointed Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Moses Nkonbe over the phone from the United States for comments, but he would not confirm or deny the story. He requested that our correspondent sees him in the office. According to him: “I cannot talk to somebody that I do not know.”
