Apex Edo organization in the Diaspora, the Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW) changed leadership via democratic process at its annual convention which ended last Sunday in Houston, Texas in the United States of America.
The new members of the executive who either won an election or were returned on opposed during the organization’s election at is Council of Presidents meeting in Houston in April 2016 were sworn into office by Convention Chairman and President of Bini Club of Houston, Mr. Osaze Igbe.
While Mr. Edison Oyiboke-Osifo was sworn in as National President of the organization, Mr. Martins Idemudia took the oath of office as Chairman, Council of Presidents, ENAW.
Others, sworn in as members of the new executive, included Engr. Bose Ogbeifun as National Vice President; Mr. Friday Enoye Treasurer, and Mrs. Stella Ejedawe who was sworn in, in absentia as Women Affairs Coordinator.
Mr. Oyiboke succeeded Elder Franklin Omoruna as president, while Mr. Martins Idemudia took over from Barrister Dickson Iyawe, as Chairman, Council of Presidents.
Omoruna and Iyawe held the positions for 4 years of two-year term, ushering in an era of tremendous and unprecedented progress, new innovations/developments, peace and unity.
Oyiboke’s deputy is a Detroit-based entrepreneur and humanitarian, Engr. Bose Ogbeifun who succeeded Mrs. Katie Salami as National Vice President of the organization.
Also sworn in, were the following officers who were returned unopposed in the April election: Prince Victor Ehue, Secretary; Mr. Osagie Igbinosun, Financial Secretary and Mr. Romeo Omigie, Cultural Director.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Martins Idemudia thanked members of the Council of President for the confidence reposed in him, pledging accountability and commitment to move ENAW forward, building on the progress it has made so far since the outgoing executive took over the reins of power four years ago.
He called on them to work with him to promote transparency and accountability, adding that ENAW would work with Edo State government for the interest of the people.
“We will hold the government accountable to the people,” he said. Mr. Idemudia thanked the chairman of the convention host-club, the Bini Club of Houston, Mr. Igbe and his members for a job well done.
Also speaking after he was sworn, the president of the organization, Mr. Edison Oyiboke-Osifo promised that his actions would be guided by the constitution of Edo National Association Worldwide, adding that he would be open everyone, with zero tolerance for cliques.
He pledged transparency, accountability and financial prudence, stressing the need for the organization to invest heavily in youth empowerment and inclusiveness, as according to him was exemplified by the convention where the youths were seriously involved, with great sense of belonging.
Mr. Oyiboke said his administration would further reach out to people that make up Edo State and bring them to the fold, including Ora, Afemai, Ishans, etc.
He thanked the outgoing president and executive for a job well done in repositioning the organization on the path of progress and prosperity, promising sustenance of the projects embarked upon by them.
In his address to the Council of Presidents before the swearing ceremony, the outgoing chairman, Barrister Dickson Iyawe thanked them for their cooperation during his tenure and implored them to extend same to the incoming chairman and president.
He urged them to remain steadfast in their service to their community and continue to pursue those noble ideals of the ENAW.
He sued for peace, unity and accountability, urging members to shun anything that would bring disrepute to the organization.
According to him, they met an ENAW that was embroiled in serious internal conflict that landed the organization in the web of litigation, with serious threat of disintegration but with the cooperation of patriotic members the organization was rescued, saying that today ENAW is united, strong and prosperous.
He thanked all those who helped ENAW financially throughout its period of litigation, with specific mention of Ikadele, Inc., an organization he said was formed by some concerned and dedicated members, seeking to ensure the integrity of Edo National Association.
