Breaking News! Benin Kingdom: Crown Prince Erediauwa To Be Crowned Oba Of Benin Oct 20

By Alltimepost.com – Boston

Alltimepost.com can authoritatively confirm that the much awaited coronation of new Benin King, Crown Prince (Amb.) Eheneden Erediauwa has been shifted from September 26 to October 20, 2016 and would take place at the historic Urhokpota Hall in Benin City, Edo State capital.

This new development was disclosed to Alltimepost.com on Tuesday by the Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council (BTC), Mr. Frank Irabor, when contacted from the United States of America.

The postponement to a new date followed a decision of the Palace to have a coronation devoid of political interference and distractions because of the uniqueness of the event.

According to Mr. Irabor, the coronation would be preceded by traditional ceremonies ten days before the historic events that would be watched by people from around the world.

It will be as follows:

On October 10, Crown Prince Erediauwa will move from his current Palace in Uselu to Ekoha Camp at Urhokpota, where he will spend two nights.

On the third day, he will move to Usama on Siluko Road in Benin, where he will spend six nights, while on the sixth day, the Crown Prince goes to Use. At Use, he will play the Akhue (the traditional oracle) to choose a name for his title.

On the following morning which is October 20, he will proceed to Urhokpota Hall on Oba Ovonramwen Square where he would be crowned the new Oba (King) of Benin Kingdom and presented with the staff of office.

More information about the event will follow as it breaks.

The shift of the coronation date followed the unexpected postponement of Edo governorship election from earlier scheduled date of September 10 to 28, 2016 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which cited security concerns for its decision.

Because the new date for the gubernatorial election is just two days after the coronation’s earlier scheduled date of September 26, 2016, the Palace considered it inconvenient and inappropriate to hold the ceremony, citing apprehension about political interference and unnecessary distractions.
