Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has congratulated the new President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud (SAN), on his election as the 28th President of the Association.
In a congratulatory letter, Oshiomhole said “your election to this exalted position of President of Nigeria Bar Association is a clear re-affirmation of your outstanding leadership qualities, professionalism, and personal integrity, as a leading progressive lawyer and advocate with an unswerving commitment to the ideals of social justice, equity, and fairness.
“You are assuming office at a critical time in the nation’s political history, which requires the Bar to be ever more proactive, forthright and courageous in line with the progressive legacy of the Bar. A purposeful Bar is no doubt an essential pillar of a functioning Justice System and a guarantee of access to justice for citizens.
“Accordingly, the Bar needs to be re-invigorated to inspire a more vibrant Bar that is principled, strong and people-oriented and capable of restoring confidence in the rule of law and the Nigerian Justice System under the current democratic dispensation.
“With your leadership, I am confident that your tenure would usher in more qualitative advances towards the pursuit of excellence in the legal profession and standards for accountability and inclusiveness for other professional bodies as well. Having shared a platform with your good self at the Harvard University some years ago, I am convinced that you not only possess the needed qualities but that you are equally intellectually prepared to provide quality leadership to such an important association of the nation’s legal luminaries and thought leaders.
“Allow me once again to extend my congratulation and wish you a successful tenure as President of NBA. I would also like to seize this opportunity to assure you of my continued solidarity and support at all times.”
