Invest In Human Beings Through Libraries, Communications Executive Tells Nig Govt

Benin City, Nigeria – Benin-based Communications and marketing Executive, Mr. Bob MajiriOghene Etemiku, last week expressed concern over the declining state of human development institutions in Nigeria and called on the Federal Government to reverse the trend.

Mr. MajiriOghene, President of Bob Majiri, Communications (BMC), a publishing, marketing and communications outfit made the remark during the legal deposit and donation of his ‘children’ book, Mamud & the Moringa Tree, to the acquisition department of Edo State Library on Sapele Road in Benin City.

“I practically grew up inside the Bendel State Library, now Edo State Library and I know how that experience of coming here to read and study everyday impacted positively on me in my formative years.

“You cannot describe the feeling you get to come back here to a place where you once came to read books to deposit legal copies and donate a little more of your books to an institution which helped build your career as an author, poet and dramatist, he noted.

“The book which recently participated in the e-book Cover Design Awards in June 2016 is already published on Amazon,” Etemiku said.

According to him, government must concentrate on the development of the human capital by investing in institutions and personalities capable of yielding high dividends and returns for the future of Nigerians.

“Last year when BMC was here, the library was hot. There were no places for students preparing for JAMB and the library was a complete wreck. Even the computer section was not functioning.

“We are delighted at BMC that after our representation to the Edo State government through an online publication, there is power supply, and the air-conditioners have been installed. The fans are functioning as well,” he remarked.

What is left for the out-going administration to do now, he continued is to ensure that the library has internet facility, and new computers installed so that students wishing to connect with the hub of virtual libraries across the globe can do so.

“If this is done, the outgoing government would be leaving a legacy which successive administrations can build on,” Mr. Etemiku said.
