THE BLOODY COUP IN TURKEY

Fethulah Gullen an influential Islamic preacher presently resident somewhere in Philadelphia in the United States has been fingered in the bloodiest coup attempt ever on the Turkish soil. That is to say that the plotters in the recent bloody business were externally motivated and sponsored. If the global fight against terrorism, Islamic insanity and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) will continue to be any meaning from the point of view of Washington Fethulah Gullen should be shown the way out of the United States, if the allegation is true, to appease the Turkish people who are still reeling from the trauma caused by the recent tragic incidents in that country.

The nation of Turkey reminds me easily of one of the greatest leaders in world history, who almost singlehandedly built the nation, Kemal Ataturk who rose from the ashes of obscurity to become the father of modern Turkey.

Ataturk saw a weak nation that could not find its bearing politically, economically, militarily, etc. and went on stoically to reposition Turkey as a nation to be reckoned with in world politics.

Though, he ruled absolutely as a dictator, his style and tactics of administering the nation ultimately proved that he was a patriotic leader who loved his people and succeeded in placing them in a zenith of political maturity and respect.

Ataturk candidly falls into the intoxicating imperishable nation builders like Gemal Abdul Nasser of Egypt, Peter the Great of Russia, Ho Chi Minh of Taiwan, Von Bismark of Germany etc.

Now, when the news of the failed military take-over by some rebellious, ambitious and reactionary military officers reached me, the first thought that ran across my mind was: not again in Turkey, not at this auspicious time that every efforts are being made globally to put democratic flag in every nation of the world.

Then the legendary Kemal Ataturk came to my mind. Then I asked myself: why would a nasty band of senior military officers want to turn upside down what Kemal Ataturk and his subsequent close collaborators labored for many years to put in place.

What sin or crime did President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commit or what promise did the guy break that the plotters brazenly threw caution to the winds and went on to inflict such heavy casualties mostly on the helpless and hapless civilian population in Turkey?

I have never really seen anywhere in the world that full-fledged military dictatorship has been adjudged to be superior or more advantageous that a democratic system. Where really?

Is it in Liberia, Nigeria or where? Military rule remains unacceptable, an aberration and a satanic agenda for desperate characters who only succeed in the end to reverse their countries to the abyss of retrogression, regrets and untold hardship.

Have we forgotten what some uniformed bandits hiding under military rule did by destroying mindlessly, the golden opportunities in Nigeria?

What of in Liberia where Sergeant Konyan Doe, Charles Taylor and the rest simply blew up the fortunes in that country into the thin air in the name of military rule and unbridled rush to acquire personal wealth?

This is my way of adding my voice to the multitudes of domestic and global condemnations against the brazen assault on democracy in Turkey where thousands of people have suddenly died.

I commend the heroic manifestation displayed by the patriotic men and women in Turkey who refused to stand aside but decided to confront the rebellious officers and rank and file who wanted to truncate democratic rule by replacing it with the rule of criminal brute force.

Never before must the democratic world continue to stand with President Recep Erdogan of Turkey as he courageously take his country out of this seemingly darkest hours in the nation’s history.

Those who master minded and practically executed the shameless foiled coup in Turkey must be treated with highest level of punishment for killing innocent citizens and attempting to throw the country back to unnecessary and unwarranted dark alley.

Wait a moment! There was a rumor of a coup scare against President Muhammadu Buhari not too long ago. Though, the coup rumor has been dismissed as a mere talk by the nation’s highest military command, efforts must be made by well-meaning Nigerians at all cost never to allow any one in whatever disguise to destabilize Nigeria.

Now that the nation is at a cross road of galloping inflation and obvious economic strangulation every patriotic Nigerian must stand with President Buhari in his current efforts in fighting corruption, and bringing Nigeria from the brink of insanity and hopelessness.
