Unknown assailants, last Sunday morning slit the throat of a 75-year old woman, Mrs. Bessy Egbeobamwonyi in Benin City, Edo State, leaving her dead beside her sleeping four-year old grandson.
It was gathered that the killers broke into her apartment in the middle of the night, slit her throat, and stabbed her severally before abandoning her lifeless body in a pool of blood.
The gory incident which occurred at Oseye Street, off Okunwague Street, off Upper Sokponba Road, Benin City, is already under police investigation.
It was gathered however that police personnel from Ugbekun Police Division removed the body of the dead woman and deposited it in a mortuary in Benin.
Following several failed attempts to reach Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Osifo, he finally confirmed the incident on Wednesday in a telephone conversation with our correspondent.
Mr. Osifo promised to give an update on ongoing investigation of the murder, saying he had been busy with police recruitment exercise going on in the state.
