By Oladipo Airenakho

Retired Major General Charles Ehigie Airhiavbere has formally declared his intention to contest the 2016 governorship election in Edo State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Airhiavbere made his intention known on Friday during a news conference at the Edo State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) immediately on his arrival from Abuja where he had gone to purchase his nomination form for N5m.

The retired Army officer who displayed his nomination form at a the crowded press conference, said he was convinced that the over 3000 delegates votes at stake would be in his favor if a free and fair primary was conducted by the party the same way Major General Muhammadu Buhari got the party’s ticket in 2014 in Lagos.

While presenting a copy of his manifesto to the Chairman of the state NUJ, Sir Roland Osakue, the APC aspirant pleaded with delegates to the party primary to vote for courage and leadership, which he said he has in abundance, as according to him, the task before the next Governor is a daunting one.

Asked on the recent denial by a leader of the party in the state as to the position of the director general of his campaign, General Airhiavbere said for now he was his own campaign manager, and the over 3000 delegates of the party in the state, his coordinators.

Honorable (Barrister) Thomas Okosun had been touted to be the director general of the aspirant’s campaign organization.
