“There will be standup comedy, singing, skits, and special appearances by Dr. Damages’ sexy nurse, Tomato Jos. Also performing that night are musicians, dancers, and comedians from Boston
“If you are lucky, you will share the stage with Dr. Damages and Adeola. Those who are extremely lucky would have Dr. Damages perform physical examination on them with his custom-made stethoscope.”
Recently, Alltimepost.com chatted with Adeola, ahead of the show for an insight into what the public should expect.
Below is detail of the interview in question and answer format:
Q: You are bringing your comedy show to Boston as part of “This America Sef Tour.” What should the audience expect to see?
A: The Audience should expect to laugh and have a great time! We have a packed show, featuring Boston-based musicians, comedians, dancers, and models that would put up a fashion show that night. It’s definitely a night audience members would remember for a long time!
Q: You are known across Africa for your take on political events on the continent. Which one event in Africa has shocked you the most in the last 4 years of making the show?
A: So many events have shocked me in Africa, especially when people are censored for petty things. For example, a group of 17 young people in Angola were recently sentenced to 2 – 8 years in prison for reading a book the government did not like.
The book is about revolution. The fact that people can be sentenced to eight years in prison based on the book they’re reading still baffles me. But I guess when a president has been in power for 36 years, anything goes.
Q: Your encounter with Zimbabwe’s president has so far defined your career. What lesson did you learn from that? Is there one other African leader that you want to confront that way?
A: I guess what I learnt was that so many people still consider Mugabe a hero, especially people who are not from Zimbabwe or familiar with the news coming out of Zimbabwe. It would be nice to chat with the president of Gambia someday.

Q: There are women in comedy but not many. Do you think that the world of comedy favors men more than women? Are there things that you have to deal with that your male counterparts do not have to deal with?
A: The world of comedy definitely favors men than women for now, but more women are getting noticed. The main thing I’ve had to deal with is mainly because of the kind of comedy I do, which is political satire.
It seems a lot of men don’t think a woman can ever know enough about the affairs of a country for her to talk about politics.
Q: In this day and age, viewers have the ability to react instantly to your work through comments to your videos and also emails to you. What are the most common reactions that you have been getting? One good and one bad.
A: In terms of positive feedback, I’m always happy when viewers say they’re learning about the politics of other African countries through my show. So when I get comments/emails talking about the show being educative, it makes me happy. In terms of negative feedback, some people tell me things can never change in Africa and I’m just troubling myself. I don’t believe them.
Things are already changing, especially the attitude of people. And that is the first thing that needs to change.
Q: You are so successful that many women must be dying to be like you. Without frightening them, what is it about your climb to the top that they do not know and need to know if they want to make it?
A: First of all, I don’t think I’m successful or I’ve climbed to any top. But I guess to be known in one’s craft demands putting in your all and going the extra mile.
Also, you may have to do the right thing for a long time without seeing any result, but keep doing it. Someday it would pay off.
