Kidnapping: ANEEJ Demands Release Of Rights Activist, Ojo’s Wife …Calls On IGP For Manhunt!

Africa Network for Environment & Economic Justice (ANEEJ) has expressed dismay over the abduction of Mrs. Juliana Uyi Ojo, wife of Godwin Ojo, Executive Director of Environmental Rights Action, Benin City and called for her immediate release.

The organization also called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the SSS and the Edo State Commissioner of Police to launch a full-scale manhunt for the perpetrators of this very shameful act.

According to a statement signed by ANNEJ Executive Director, Rev. David Ugolor in Benin City on Tuesday, on the night of February 22, 2016 two hoodlums gained entrance to the residence of the Ojos in Benin City and abducted Mrs. Juliana Ojo right in the presence of her daughter.

Dr. Ojo is co-founder of ERA/Friends of the Earth, and has worked keenly on the establishment of community resource centers in the Niger Delta Communities in Nigeria.

“ANEEJ is bewildered at the spate of kidnappings in Benin City of persons who represent institutions that champion the interests and issues that relate to the uplift of the common man.

“We recall that in November 2015, a prominent medical doctor Philip Ugbodaga was on a medical mission in Imo State before he was kidnapped by hoodlums demanding a ransom. Dr. Ugbodaga was released after three days in the hands of his captors.

‘We condemn the abduction of Mrs. Juliana Uyi Ojo and demand her immediate and unconditional release.

“We call on the Inspector General of Police, IGP, the SSS and the Edo State Commissioner of Police to launch a full-scale manhunt for the perpetrators of this very shameful act,” Ugolor stated.

Civil Society Organizations should lend their voices and resources to our call for the unconditional and immediate release of Mrs. Justina Uyi Ojo, Rev David Ugolor said.
