Africa Network for Environment & Economic Justice, ANEEJ has expressed satisfaction over the release of Mrs. Justinah Uyi Ojo who was abducted in Benin City, Edo State capital by kidnappers on February 22, 2016.
In a press statement first sent out on February 23, 2016 by ANEEJ, and another signed on February 25, 2016 by a coalition of human rights groups, civil society organisations together with support from the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State chapel, ANEEJ called for Mrs. Justinah Ojo’s release on humanitarian grounds.
Mrs. Ojo’s husband, Dr. Godwin Uyi Ojo is Executive Director and co-founder of ERA/Friends of the Earth.
He has worked for the poor and needy and for the establishment of community resource centres in the Niger Delta Communities in Nigeria for over two decades.
Mrs. Ojo is a strong supporter of her husband’s work, and therefore her abduction and kidnap came as a rude shock against this background.
In a press statement issued in Benin City on Saturday, ANEEJ’s Executive Director, Rev. David Ugolor thanked God and all those who supported the cause for her release.
“We are grateful to God and appreciative of everyone – the security agencies that worked behind the scenes, stakeholders in the human rights community, the CSOs, the NUJ Edo chapter and all who came together to make a collective statement to ask for Mrs. Justinah Ojo’s release.”
