Alltimepost.com, a United States-based online newspaper has been described as a great contributor to the spread of fast, timely and undiluted information.
Frontline environmental and human rights activist, Rev. David Ugolor, made the remark recently while receiving the newspaper’s Publisher, Comrade Emmanuel Okunmwendia in his sprawling office in Benin City, Edo State capital.
Ugolor who is the Executive Director of a leading Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria, the African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), said he was pleased to identify with the news medium.
Alltimepost.com Publisher who is also a human rights activist, visited ANEEJ to show solidarity for the organization’s avowed environmental and human rights activities which not only to seek to protect the environment, defend and protect people’s rights, but make government at all levels accountable to the people.
David Ugolor threw more lights on his organization’s mission which include contribution to the emergence of a just and equitable African society through socio-economic and environmental rights protection, institutional strengthening and people’s empowerment.
ANEEJ is also known for its penchant for the campaign for government transparency and adherence to good governance and best practices.
Rev. Ugolor said he was pleased to receive Mr. Okunmwendia and stated that online news outfits like Alltimepost.com and Sahara Reporters have made many Nigerians proud and happy as they have become constant media, dishing out fast, timely and rich information to the people.
Alltimepost.com, he remarked, was capturing those salient issues that the traditional newspapers have succeeded in shutting down in their publications and breaching the gap between countless Nigerians and their government in information dissemination.
“It would have been tragic if we are still relying on traditional newspapers alone by now. Alltimepost.com penchant for enlightenment and issues-based stories and articles is really encouraging as a contributor to international cooperation,” he noted.
Rev. Ugolor declared that ANEEJ would continue to collaborate with the news medium in fact findings on developmental issues, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) interventions through thorough investigations; physical and social development works; how government spends money; citizen’s participatory process; budget monitoring exercise/capacity building etc.
Both leaders also agreed to collaborate in not only protecting the environment, but focus on promotion and protection of democracy, transparency and good governance and intensified fight against corruption.
Mr. Okunmwendia thanked ANEEJ and Rev. Ugolor profusely for the great work being done locally & internationally, and pro-actively in confronting the challenges of corruption in Nigeria via capacity building workshops; serial conferences; peaceful protests/demonstrations; interventions in the extractive industries; agitations for transparency policies; struggle for the passage of Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB); human rights campaigns; Niger Delta serial intervention programs, etc.
He assured that, he as a person, and his medium, Alltimepost.com would continue to stand with them one hundred present in the struggle.
The Alltimepost.com Publisher who also pledged the newspaper’s continued and unflinching support for ANEEJ and civil societies in general in the areas of investigating developmental, environmental and human rights issues/good governance policies that will impact positively on the generality of the people of Nigeria, nay Africa in consonance with the medium’s editorial policy and mission statement.
During the visit, Comrade Okunmwendia also met with the dedicated and knowledgeable staff of ANEEJ where he told them that they were not alone in the fight for a better, protected environment and the rights of the masses.
He told them he was in Nigeria for his daughter’s wedding which took place on January 14 and 16, 2016.
During the visit, Rev Ugolor presented to him, copies of CITIZEN REPORT CARD on Niger Delta Institutions and Edo State budget analysis for 2010 and 2013, as produced by the African Network for Environment and Economic Justice.
