Edo State gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize- Iyamu’s Community Service Initiative has embarked on an enlightenment campaign on how to prevent the spread of Lassa fever in Edo State.
Osagie’s campaign in collaboration with House to House Initiative, last Saturday jumpstarted the enlightenment campaign in Irua and Ekpoma, Edo Central Local Government Area, bringing respite to the inhabitants of the communities.
Pastor Ize-Iyamu who was present during the enlightenment campaign admonished the group and said: “we have a serious problem in our hands and we can’t afford to keep quiet and pretend that all is well when people are falling to Lassa fever daily.
“Irrua Specialist Hospital is a referral center for Lassa fever in Edo State and we should be able to put a halt to the spread and this is why I have decided to partner with you to eradicate this fever.”
Apart from the campaign being held at market square in Ekpoma and Irua Specialist hospital, it was also taken to Opoji Market, where they spoke to a large crowd of market women, informing them of the dangers of Lassa fever and how it can be prevented through proper hygiene.
They advised bike riders, market women, business men, youths, as well as elders to fumigate regularly and keep everywhere in the house clean, especially washing their dishes and pots before use.
House to House Initiative later helped the people to fumigate their houses and provided them with lots of chemicals to continue the fumigation.
Edo State Chapter President of House To House Initiative, Mr. Desmond Igunbor had told Urhopota Reporters that the exercise was made possible by the immeasurable contributions of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
“You would recall that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu had just recently organized a dental care program through his community service Initiative in a bid to put smile on people’s faces and today again he is at the fore-front of eradicating Lassa fever through this enlightenment campaign and provision of chemicals for fumigation. I would say the man’s level of empathy is legendary.”
Inhabitants of the towns and communities visited were full of praises for Ize-Iyamu and House to House Initiative.
