Frontline Civil Society Activist, Rev. David Ugolor has described Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as a poster child of trade union movement in Africa whose ultimate success will provide a great opportunity for upcoming activists to access political power in Nigeria.
Rev Ugolor, who is the Executive Director of Africa Network for Environment & Economic Justice (ANEEJ) made the remark while speaking to Alltimepost.com from civil society point of view in Benin City during the week.
He said by his performance Oshiomhole has created an ecosystem in Edo State favorable to the evolution of social movement as a credible platform for the promotion of democratic practice.
“Governor Oshiomhole is one of our own; we should never be deceived by any politician,” saying that he (Ugolor) has no loyalty or affinity to any political party in Nigeria.
“I am not a member of PDP or APC. Today you can see pockets of independent social groups in Edo State. I am a testimony of that victory as we continue to support Oshiomhole to deliver.”
Ugolor made it clear that irrespective of his success, Governor Oshiomhole would still be held accountable to the people by the civil society.
“It does not take away from us the responsibilities to hold him and his government accountable to those values known to the social movement around the world.’’
The human rights activist said he supported former Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State because he was oppressed by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and what he called its machinery of tyranny.
He described Governor Oshiomhole’s performance as a great source of pride to members of the civil society in Nigeria.
His words: ‘‘Oshiomhole has performed very well; his success is our priority. We cannot pretend to make this claim publicly and boldly because Edo State is one of the most successful states in Nigeria’’
