Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has given a hint that the state government wants the Tayo Akpata University, Ekiadolor to take off in January, 2015.

This came to the fore when the Seven-man Committee led by the former Vice Chancellor of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma Prof. Dennis Agbonlahor presented the committee’s report on the Evaluation of Staff Disposition in Tayo Akpata University and Its Campuses to the Governor in Benin City yesterday.

In the report, the committee made among its recommendation that, the University should commence as soon as practicable within the Adams Oshiomhole – led administration tenure.

Governor Oshiomhole said, as part of effort of his administration to sustain and improve on the standard of education in the state, holders of National Certificate of Education (NCE) should not teach in secondary school except holders of degrees in Education.

Governor Oshiomhole, who also emphasized that competent teachers are employed in the tertiary institutions and secondary schools in the state stressing, “I want to assure you that to the best of our ability, we will try to ensure that it is reflected in attempts to revive a lot of institutions.

Governor Oshiomhole said the report would be studied and that he would make a pronouncement thereafter.
On the recommendation by the committee that Colleges of Education at Igueben and Abudu remain as they were, Governor Oshiomhole explained that the most cogent reason is that the colleges would be drawing from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund TET Fund for infrastructural development.

Earlier, Prof. Dennis Agbonlahor, who used slides to illustrate the statistical representations in it, gave the staff and facilities requirements of the university and its proposed campus in Afuze stressing that the Igueben and Abudu communities requested that institutions in their communities remain College of Education especially as they would attract TET Fund.
