Senate Sets Conditions For Screening Minister-Nominees

Senators, on Thursday, adopted the criteria for screening of the 21 minister-nominees forwarded to the chamber by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The senators, who announced the criteria after a two-hour closed door session(executive session), said that the nominees must present evidence of Code of Conduct clearance and also secure the backing of at least two senators from their states of origin.

Senate spokesman, Dino Melaye, said that the Senate met behind closed doors, on Thursday, and came out with set criteria for the screening and confirmation of the 21 minister-nominees last week by President Buhari to the Senate, adding that the screening would be broadcast live from Tuesday to Thursday next week.

He said that the requirements set by the senators were drawn from the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as according to him, the criteria would ensure a hitch-free exercise. (TRIBUNE)
