Edo lawmakers have dispelled the wide spread speculations of a planned impeachment of the State House of Assembly Speaker, Honorable Victor Edoror, with the passage, on Wednesday of a vote of confidence on him.
The vote came on the heel of recent widespread speculation in the Benin City of a planned removal of the Speaker over allegation of holding on to N36 million belonging to the eighteen local government areas in the state.
At the session of the Assembly, the Honorable members wondered where such a spurious misinformation could have emanated from, such that the lawmakers and the media officer to the Speaker were left unable to respond to the plethora of media enquiry on the true position of things.
Honorable Folly Ogedengbe who spoke on the floor of the house dispelled the speculated planned impeachment of the Speaker which was allegedly scheduled for Monday October 19, 2015, adding that
It was not only baseless, but false.
According to him, his colleagues were taken aback by the rumor and that it was a calculated attempt by mischief makers to cause disharmony amongst the legislators.
On Monday, uneasy calm pervaded the premises of the Edo State House of Assembly, following the rumored plot by some members to impeach the Speaker.
This, according to unconfirmed source followed an alleged delayed in the release of the sum of N36m meant for local government councils in the state.
Though the allegation against the Assembly Speaker was yet to be confirmed by any one of the Honorable
Members of the House, the rumor however generated a lot of public interest with speed.
Attempt to confirm with the office of the Speaker the veracity of the allegation against him did not prove successful as his media officer, Mr.Godwins Oriafo, declined to speak on the matter.
Apart from acknowledging that the office was already aware of the rumor he said he could not speak on it until given the go ahead by the Honorable Speaker.
