A medical outreach of the Nigerian Army is currently providing free medical service and other relief materials to internally displaced Nigerians in a camp located in Edo State.
Those in the camp are people affected by Boko Haram insurgency which for several years have wreaked havoc on the nation, especially the Northern part of Nigeria. They have come to be known as Internally Displaced Persons (IDP).
According to the Commander of the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Faruk Yahaya, the medical outreach and relief materials is in furtherance of the nation’s Army Chief-Of-Staff mandate for the army to impact positively on its neighboring communities.
Yahaya who said it was not the first time he and his men visited the displaced persons camp in Egor Council Area of Edo State explained that the medical outreach was there to assist, screen and treat any of the camp residents for any medical ailments.
The Nigerian Army, he continued, also “sees it as a necessary duty at all times to relate well with members of its neighboring communities in order to gain their confidence.”
Among the relief materials donated last week by the Army were bags of rice, detergents, soaps and sanitaria.
Receiving the items from General F Yahaya, the Camp’s manager, Pastor Solomon Abumere Folorunsho thanked the Army Chief-Of-Staff for remembering the displaced persons in the camp.
Folorunsho who is the coordinator of the International Christian Centre, Uhogua, in Egor Council Area of Edo State also acknowledged several other assistances rendered to the camp by the Nigerian Army.
