BENIN CITY – Seven days after the conferment of the chieftaincy title of Uko N’Iwebo, on the Heir-Apparent to the Benin throne and Edaiken N’Uselu, His Royal Highness, Crown Prince (Amb.) Eheneden Erediauwa, he has in accordance with customary norm performed the traditional Iguohun ceremony (propitiation of his destiny) in appreciation of Divine grace and the good fortune of his destiny.
It was a prodigious feast, with spiritually infused choral renditions by the lsekhuian Royal Palace, women group and other traditional musicologists spicing the ceremonial arena.
The Iguohun ceremony (propitiation of his destiny) which created the opportunity for the spiritual renewal and fortification of the personage of the Heir-Apparent to the Benin throne, was also an occasion to ask for God’s continuous guidance, blessings and protection for the Edaiken, the Royal households and the Benin Kingdom.
The Acting Ukueben, a senior in the Enisen group of the Royal Palace chamber of Iwebo who officiated at the ceremony held at the official residence of the Edaiken prays for God’s favour and divine health upon the Benin Crown Prince, after which he anoints the Edaiken with blood of the sacrificial offerings, under the watchful eyes of Eribo, the Acting Head of Iwebo. Eribo is next to Uwangue, head of Iwebo in rank, a position which is yet to be filled.
Amidst shouts of lyare! Iyare!!, the ceremony climaxed with the Royal dance by the Heir-Apparent to the Benin throne and Edaiken N’Uselu.’
His graceful and dexterous Royal dance display with the Eben, ceremonial sword round the sacrificial offerings was appropriately acknowledged by all present.
Remarkably, His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa, Edaiken N’ Uselu, whose birthday anniversary coincided with he period of the Iguohun ceremony, symbolically cut a specially prepared birthday cake, in the ecstatic mood of well-wishers, that included family members, chiefs and palace functionaries.
